Gatwick Airport closed after drone disruption
In December 2018, at the on of the biggest airports of Great Britain – Gatwick, many flights was cancelled or redirected to different airports. The areodrome was closed for over 30 hours and more than 120,000 passengers were affected by that incident. The cause of the disturbance were two unmanned aircrafts flying over the airport.
Police said the drone flights were a deliberate act to disrupt the airport at one of the busiest time of the year, but that there were absolutely no indications to suggest this is terror-related.
That incident demonstrated the immediate need to introduce legal regulations and take appropriate measures to prevent such an event from happening again.
