In August 2018, assassination attempt took place while president of Venezuela was giving a televised speech during celebrations of the National Guard’s 81st anniversary in the capital, Caracas, Nicolas Maduro was targeted by a drone carrying explosive materials.

Seven members of the military leadership who were on stage with the leader at that time were wounded.

On 6 August 2018, Prosecutor General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, announced that two individuals described to be the alleged pilots were arrested and “will be charged with the crimes of treason and intentional homicide” in addition to other crimes.
