Smuggling drone intercepted at a Canadian prison
At the beginning of April 2019, the unmanned aircraft tried to smuggle a big amount of drugs of different kinds, a weapon with edges made of ceramic and a few mobile phones along with SIM cards and chargers. The police has been investigating the case. Three months ago two men were taken to jail on suspicion of flying a drone near another prison in Canada.
The Correctional Service of Canada is deeply concerned about the growing problem of drone smuggling and is keen on enhancing measures to reduce it and provide overall safety in their institutions. The officers witness up to five contraband drone deliveries a week and underline that the as drones are able to carry more and more cargo, then the risk is higher. The fact that they are low-cost and easily accessible also contributes to it. The prison plans to test different anti-drone solutions to find the one that suits them best.
