Swiss Post decided to decline the services of postal drones after the second incident this year.

Throughout the year, Swiss Post has been cooperating with company “Matternet”, manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles, which until present have delivered laboratory samples to hospitals. The service was available in three cities: Zurich, Bern and Lugano. At that time 3,000 successful flights were carried out, which turned out to be an excellent solution for medical institutions. It accelerated the pace of medical researches and analysis of samples, which allowed to save additional time on delivery and costs associated with road transport.

The incident that took place in Zurich was quite dangerous, but fortunately no one was hurt. According to the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, in two minutes after launch the drone’s parachute was opened. Unfortunately, the connection of drone with a parachute was  broken because of quadcopter’s rotors. In addition, the drone fell just 50 meters from a group of preschoolers.
