Pilot from Kaikōura reminds about the potential threats which can be posed by drones
Pilots who conduct flights from Kaikōura airfield are concerned about the potential threats which can be posed by unmanned aerial vehicles.
Kaikōura pilot Murray Hamilton reminded about one incident when the drone went right between helicopter’s rotor blades and skid. Fortunately the pilot was successful enough to land the helicopter.
Following the incident, Hamilton convinced local retailers, that they must be aware and inform their customers about the dangers and rules connected with the use of drones. He also appealed to the city council to install signboards with the purpose of informing about places where drones can’t be operated.
A spokeswoman for Kaikōura District Council reported that signage for a few key areas was being worked on. Everybody who uses drones can find the Information regarding places where such devices can be operated on the council website or it’s Facebook page.
