According to a statement made by FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Berge, The Federal Aviation Administration is trying to determine if the officer, who was identified by Louisville Metro Police as Sgt. Derrick Leachman, broke regulations on drone’s use.

Rae Hodge, journalist of CNET first tweeted about Leachman’s drone exploitation on Friday afternoon, emphasizing that her roommate called to her and told that he had noticed a drone flying outside their building, which was located on South Fourth Street.

On Tuesday, Police spokeswoman Jessie Halladay reported to the Courier Journal that the police department did an initial investigation of Leachman’s activity taking into account the social media posts and reveled that Leachman was using the unmanned aerial vehicle on his personal time.

At the same time, it is unclear if Leachman had permission to operate a drone in that area.
