From January 1, 2021, new registration rules for UAVs will be implemented in South Korea. Changes in legislation were adopted to counter threats posed by hostile drones. Registration will be compulsory for unmanned aerial vehicles with take-off weights of more than 2 kg. It will be possible to register the device via the Internet or with the help of application for a smartphone. Also, operators will be required to undertake the test and get a permission to operate drone legally in case when the device weighs more than 250 grams. Moreover, pilots of unmanned aerial vehicles weighing less than 2 kg, but more than 250 g, will be obliged to undergo a compulsory online training course. New regulations will also affect individuals who operate UAVs weighing from 2 kg to 7 kg. Written test and 6 hours of professional experience in carrying out drone flights will be necessary for them.
